Ladies and Gents Who Lunch photos

At lunch today in Oakland

April 3rd, 2004

Not Bad
A sunny day, today, this first weekend in April, Easter coming next week, next Sunday, daylight savings kicking in tomorrow. Time goes by. Life goes by, but comfortably, sometimes so comfortably it seems like anesthesia. Still, cameras, film: there's always a walk along the lake looking for pictures.

Bullshit.

True, true. But what is truth and what is fiction here on the web? On the street? On the job? We do the best we can.

An after work session yesterday at The Rex led to four or so bottles of Guinness in what turned out to be an early evening detox from the day. Small company techies are known for their fondness for alcohol, at least the small company techies I knew in Napa. The sober sided techies I know in my larger corporate culture don't have the same reputation (except, perhaps, for my associates). Maybe large corporations select for sobriety, closed mouth watch your back take no prisoners survive at all costs sobriety. Hard to say. We were less than sober at The Rex last night and I am grateful.

The day has gone slowly, a trip here to pick up another half gallon of Wild Turkey (we don't want to run out of Wild Turkey), a walk there to breakfast at the usual cafe, another walk over there to hit the money machine, a trip later in the opposite direction for hot sake, sushi and green tea cheesecake. Not bad. I like green tea ice cream. I now discover I like green tea cheesecake. All this and the weekend isn't even half finished.

Hot sake?

And a couple of Wild Turkey's with water to finish the evening while watching subtitled Japanese television. Not bad, this existence, here in Oakland.

The photograph was taken at a recent lunch in Oakland with a Nikon D2H mounted with a 70 - 200mm f 2.8 Nikkor (Nikon) lens.
