The 21st Century
Lunch today in Alameda at an Italian restaurant. Not a big place, but big enough and we were their only noon hour customers. The food was good, more pricey than we normally like, but still, not pricey enough if you're looking to survive in the restaurant business. Why Alameda? A reason to show off the new car, of course! What else? Pack up the folks and drive! You were expecting more? Here in Oakland?

I've been listening to this terrorist business on public television. Ups the pucker factor somewhat here on the West Coast, let me tell you, must shoot it through the roof in New York City. They say the Pakistani police found elaborate plans to blow up the New York Stock Exchange and the World Bank headquarters, some of the details added as recently as January, in the possession of a 25 year old suspect they have in custody and (one assumes) interrogation. Hard to say what this is about, but I wouldn't want to be in the custody of the Pakistani police for double parking, let alone planning to blow up a stock market.

So?

So you note things you wouldn't ordinarily note as you bumble along, no big deal, of course, but the stress rises. That door I found propped open in the office lobby over the weekend? What was that about? Seemingly nothing, nada, pass along, youngster, get on with your business. Still, it must have an effect, this news, some bump to the blood pressure. Welcome to New York City, pilgrim. Welcome to the 21st Century.
