What I've Missed
Wednesday. This bird flu business in China and now Siberia seems pretty grim. I've been reading about it, of course. They talk about such things on public radio. I don't know if they talk about it on commercial television, but I assume they do, what with the sensational aspects: flu pandemic, millions about to die, ugly symptoms, the federal government evidently not stocking enough vaccine - remember the shortage we had last year? The local newspapers don't run it on the front page, but they do run stories inside, they are keeping a wary eye. And they're disconcerting, these stories. My feeling, on listening to the news that it was now creeping over the poles, was to buy a large bottle of Corona Extra, La Cerveza mas fina, on the way home. I'd hate to die, living as I do beside a bird sanctuary, without a taste.
Other than that, a good day. I spent most of it at the office cobbling together web pages riddled with .gif's, the old click on this (look at the screen shot), click on that (don't worry when the screen goes blue). Mindless stuff, but soothing sometimes, like today. A salad for lunch, beer for dinner, the weather almost perfect. Another day roughing it here in Oakland.
Speaking of “Here In Oakland” it's still somewhere out there lost on the Internet. I'll call Network Associates tomorrow, see what I've missed.
Indeed.
