Effort

Friday. Lights out by ten, awake just before six, one forty-eight on the scale this morning. The sleep good, the weight I'm less sure about. The ribs don't stick out or anything, but numbers like these, given my past, are from outer space.

Still raining and so a drive to breakfast: the plain waffle with sliced bananas and strawberries, fruit cup and coffee, the papers all talking about Trump's staffing choices, all of them suggesting we're heading into a very different political world conducted under very different rules, only some of which seem to be apparent. The Chinese equivalent of “interesting times” brought to us in nice manageable messages, none longer than 140 characters.

Home now, still raining. I have some copy to tighten up in the Mindwarp draft. Today. No excuses. (Until later.)

Later. A break in the rain after ten and so a walk to the pharmacy to pick up that refill they'd said had been delayed, setting out over by the lake to find memorial candles, flowers and photographs that had been left by the Ghost Ship gathering earlier this week. People have been genuinely touched by this tragedy. I sometimes wince at what I feel is the news media “milking” of the story in pursuit of advertising dollars, but the audience, at least in this case, is genuinely moved.

The prescription was ready and so paid the small fortune required for this particular one and walked straight back home, some thought to get something to eat on the way, but now as always, unable to think of anything that appealed.

Later still. Started looking over the Mindwarp section. Not horrible, but it needs work and so we'll get to work.

No rain since picking up the prescription refill, some thought to head downtown for a Free Mumia Abu-Jamal National Day of Action demonstration scheduled for Frank Ogawa Plaza at four. The rain all day yesterday proved to be unsettling by keeping me locked up here inside and, if it rains again all day tomorrow, maybe best to get out again now and make sure the head is clear for tomorrow.

Evening. The sinuses are better. Not so good this morning and early afternoon until about an hour after getting home from the pharmacy. They remind you every now and then how much they get in the way of the day and the outlook.

Democracy Now!, some time on the guitar, then New Tricks, one I've seen before. Of course. Had no idea who'd done it, why or when. Again. And that was it. Started two or three movies on the tablet that turned out to be not worth the effort.

The photo up top was taken today of the Ghost Ship memorial at Lake Merritt with a Nikon D500 mounted with a 24-120mm f 4.0 VR Nikkor lens.
