Space Out, Why Not? I got a call from the nurse at my doctor's office this afternoon saying the insurance company had approved the operation to move my jaw forward and, I hope, correct this sleep apnea thing I've got. I said fine, schedule it as soon as you can, let's go ahead. Life has its little hiccups. (Shit.) There was some question about doing the operation in two phases. Move the top portion of the jaw first and the bottom portion of the jaw some six weeks later after the first operation had healed. Great. I don't want to particularly think about what I'll look like for those six weeks. I'll know what they recommend next week. Two operations six weeks apart or all in one shot. There's a halfway long story behind the reason for splitting it into two parts: One is the fact that this doctor is considered one of the best at this particular operation and one of the few who routinely brings it off. Second, for a lot of reasons I won't go into here, two shorter sessions might forestall some, um complications that I'm susceptible to and lower the risk of a lawsuit. (I know, I know. It's the American way. A simple little death in the family and the survivors rev the lawyers up.) Hmmm. Too dramatic. Too juvenile. I'll take it back. There are, however, a couple of things that make this something more than a slam dunk, so they're talking about the doing in two parts and I'm thinking I'd better swallow hard and go with whatever they recommend. Six weeks looking like a swordfish, though, sucks. Bottom line, I'm happy to be getting it done, but part of the deal requires you to keep your head down a little more than you otherwise might and suck in your gut. No free lunch. Other than that, how was your day? Mine was fine this Friday mine. The horoscope in the paper has only two stars, which means its probably going to rain out any chance of shooting photographs over the weekend, but I'm feeling good tonight, honestly tired and ready to sleep, maybe go have breakfast somewhere new, pick up the laundry, space out, why not? |
