Life Is Good
Friday. So, up at six, on the road with Ms. Emmy at eight, now in Oregon in a motel for the night, $44.95 for me, $10 for Ms. Emmy. I am now, after ten or so hours on the road, better versed in the matter of transporting cats. Well, transporting Ms. Emmy in a car. My car. She's skitterish as hell, but she's curled up on the bed beside me now as I write. So how did it go?
- One hour of serious yowling in the cat carrier as we set out.
- Three hours of silence thereafter lying in the (comfortably padded) cat carrier.
- Let her out of the carrier while I had lunch, a kitty litter box, water dish and cat food bowl on the car floor in front of the back seats thinking she'd eat if she had to, poop if she must.
- When I got back from lunch I carefully checked for her whereabouts, couldn't see her inside (plenty of places to hide), quickly got in the car and started driving figuring she'd eventually let me know her location and her opinion on the rest of the trip.
- A furry shape under my feet on the driver's side, a move over to the passenger side finally lying down on my beat up wear it when it's cold Pendleton shirt on the car floor, seemingly finding a compromise she'd accept.
- Now in a motel room, the kitty litter, water and food on the tile floor in the bathroom, maybe three more hours to drive, life is good.
