For The Best

Wednesday. Lights out before ten and then to sleep, just like that. None of the turmoil of the night before, up with the alarm without much effort to head off to breakfast feeling good. I'm sure I'll natter on about it all day long.

Awoke to the news of the Charlie Hebdo killings. Given the state of the planet I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, but as an old humor magazine editor (who had his own experience from running a “religious” cartoon) it came closer to home. I have friends who are cartoon artists, two of whom now live in France, so something a little more to think about. Strange world; stranger, I suspect, than we can imagine.

Later. So far a morning, now an early afternoon, feeling pretty good, certainly as good as I was feeling yesterday. A walk over to the apartment house construction project with a long lens on the camera (I'd been thinking more in terms of going by the lake than the construction site) and so some pictures. Probably best to go by again later with a more sensible lens.

An hour processing the pictures before catching a bus downtown for lunch (was the original thought), but ended up in front of Peet's with a small coffee (cut half with water) and a cranberry scone. Ah, well. Looked at the watch, the return bus was due and so a bus back to get off a stop early and walk by the construction site again for more pictures.

Now to look at this new hard drive and rearrange the computer table. I have no idea where all these power cords and cables go, to which drives they're connected and what images sit on all the drives, but that's the idea: figure it out. Now, please, before another year goes by.

Later still. Got the network drive up and running, still have to track down the images and consolidate them in some sensible order. It will take time, but at least we've started.

Evening. I've been listening to the news of the Charlie Hebdo killings all day, the French 24 hour station is essentially running no other news. The cartoonists I know on Facebook are similarly absorbed. It's become a different less comprehensible world.

Other than that to bed early again. The back molars have been acting up and so a somewhat larger dose of the pain meds to see if it will help. To bed, I think, heat up the tablet. I'm thinking it would be nice to have some alcohol to go with the meds, try to hammer the teeth without hammering the head. But there isn't. Probably for the best.

The photo up top was taken today at the 460 Grand AvéVista apartment house construction site with a Nikon D4s mounted with an 80-400mm f 4.5-5.6 VR Nikkor lens.
