The Entire World
Thursday. Up just before nine, the sore throat no better, no worse. No runny nose, no indication if this is as bad as it will be or not. Not much of a fever if, indeed, I have a fever. The kind of cold that wouldn't hold you back from going into the office if you were one of those crazy kinds of people who did that.

Like you?

Yeah, but I only did it to spread the wealth.

Now, now. People might believe you.

Later. The morning is rather nice with clear skies and sun. I'll probably go down to the local café later and have lunch instead of breakfast. Either that or go by the local grocery store and buy something to eat as well as something for the cat. “The cat” is in the bedroom on her warming pad on the bed, at the moment, totally zoned out, but she'll come alive once it's time for lunch. Nice, perhaps, to have someone so predictable around the house.

Later still. Run run over to the breakfast place around noon for, well, breakfast. Felt pretty good, the nose dry, a slight flush to the face, no complaints. And yes, a drive by Safeway for cat food, some fruit and some tuna fish. I'm not sure how much mercury I get in any given month through eating tuna fish, but probably not all that much given the fact I'm not pregnant and I cut it with a little mayonnaise and mustard when I make a sandwich and eat it for lunch.

Mustard? On tuna fish?

An affectation I picked up as a child. Pay no attention. I never do it in mixed company.

Mixed company?

Foodies and old friends still in the wine business.

I did do one thing relatively foolish this afternoon in ordering a network video camera from B&H. I've been spending too much money lately, more out of boredom or stirred up neuroses than anything else, and I've therefore been cutting back. All those flash accessories, for example. What was that about? Still, I've had an old webcam now for years that I haven't been able to set up, so I ordered a wiz-bang new wireless Axis web camera I'm planning on pointing out the window and activating my “webcam” again.

The technology has exploded since I acquired the last one. But still, why? What's outside my window other than a one way alleyway in front of my apartment with about zilch in the way of traffic? It does some clever stuff (from the online information provided), this new webcam, but I don't believe that makes any difference if there's nothing to shoot, so why did I do it?

Because you finally got your hospital bill yesterday in the mail and it was much less than you were fearing?

Ah, yes. That. Many dollars less. Many dollars less enough to buy a dozen of these little cameras and wire every room in the entire apartment with enough left over to wire the front building hallways and garage, displaying my cat discolored rugs and mud splashed tires to the entire world (and still come out ahead).
