Here In Oakland

Art & Life

June 18, 2015

I Did

Thursday. To bed early to do some futzing around with the tablet, but nothing drew me in and so lights out and to sleep at ten. No waking up in the middle of the night, sleeping straight through until the alarm, to get up and walk to breakfast. Nice. A good start.

A scramble to finish yesterday's entry before posting, but no thought to attempt a nap, the day outside looking pretty good - clear sky, sun - and so the plan a bus downtown to take the usual set of pictures, not a novel plan for a late morning here in Oakland, buzzing along and babbling. A bit.

Later. So out the door to catch the bus downtown, getting off at the City Center to have lunch at the usual outside table at the bagel shop before heading up Broadway to Latham Square. A turkey with Swiss cheese bagel sandwich and coffee (I was hungry).

Nice day, sun, not too warm and so a leisurely walk home, taking pictures from the usual positions along Latham Square, the usual positions being all that are available without sneaking into thefenced off construction area. Too bad about the Rotunda building window no longer being available, but no complaints. You work with what you're given.

But why a road construction project? You've been bitching about taking these apartment house construction site photos. Why not set out to take other kinds of pictures? Pictures of people? You know, what you say attracted you to photography in the first place?

Life is not that simple.

Oh yes it is.

Obviously it's not, here in Oakland.

A walk then back to the apartment, first stopping along the way at the 7-11 look-alike for an ice cream bar (just for the hell of it to, well, celebrate a sunny June day) and then by the apartment house construction site, still lots of workers up pounding hammers and attaching stuff to the outside of the building during the noon hour. So pictures.

Later still. A bath. When's the last time I bathed? We'll not answer, not the sort of thing you want to admit to in polite company. Still, a nice long hot bath using the usual amount of water you use when bathing. Let's just say we're still well within our water allocation for the month.

Now what? Finish the processing of the photographs taken today and checking out this evening's Inspector Lewis episode (I'm pretty sure I've seen them all) and then betting on whether or not I'll stay up to watch Vera that runs until eleven? Tonight's Elementary is another repeat and maybe I'll take a peek, all of it playing with fire and the night's chance of a decent sleep?

Evening. I had indeed seen tonight's Inspector Lewis, but couldn't remember who'd done it and so sat right on through til the end to then watch the Vera episode that followed, ending at eleven. Yes. I did.

The photo up top was taken at the San Francisco 2015 Carnaval Parade with a Nikon D4s mounted with a 70-200mm f 2.8 VR II Nikkor lens.
