Black Borsalino Hat
Friday. Back from breakfast at the usual place, returning to my car six minutes late on the parking clock, the meter maid suggesting six minutes might as well be six years as far as the city was concerned. OK. I'll check my watch more carefully in the future, no need to become upset.
I was quite good last night at Harrington's avoiding the excesses indulged in by my companions. I wanted to get out of the apartment yesterday as I was feeling a little jumpy (it happens sometimes) and knowing conversation with friends at an overly yuppie watering hole in San Francisco would head that off. Home fairly early, took a couple of pictures on the train, no complaints. No need to have a conversation with self this morning, taking it easy and making a point to thoroughly read the papers over breakfast. “Thoroughly” taking exactly six minutes longer than it evidently should.
Later. OK, two movies arrived from Netflix, two Japanese classics of sorts (well, it says so on the DVD jacket), one made in 1973, one made in 1957, both of them reasonably good as I watched both this afternoon. There was a period there I wasn't watching movies at all - a month in between adding films to my Netflix list - but that was then, this is now. I'm hoping to get back to reading again, clearing out my recently bought, but not yet opened pile. I've started a couple in the last whatever number of months, but not finished them. This has not been my history with books, I have many bookcases full of titles you'd recognize, all of them read. Not a lot of them reread - hard to justify keeping them around that being the fact - but they give a certain stability to life and add a ton of weight to the apartment floor. I'm not sure I'd like to live in the apartment below during the earthquake when it comes. Oh, well. Another day, a good afternoon, we'll get the walking in after the party tomorrow.
The party tomorrow?
Something about the Kentucky Derby. The invitation suggested wearing appropriate costume, something to do with silks. A top hat? I think I'll wear jeans and a black Borsalino hat.
