Here In Oakland

Art & Life

Albany

Thursday. Not a bad night, up and awake at quarter to six to walk to breakfast. The leg muscles a little sore at first, but fine once they'd stretched a bit. Yesterday's walk home from the lab was the verdict. The usual little voice saying “more exercise”. So be it. But tomorrow.

The plain waffle with sliced bananas and strawberries, mixed fruit and coffee for breakfast. No need to take any chances, although the weight was down to one forty-nine again this morning, no need to avoid more calories. I guess. The weight varies, but not all that much and so it seems to have found its spot.

Took another photograph walking to the restaurant, the shutter speed faster, but still too slow. We'll get there eventually. Doesn't say much for my picture taking.

On the way home there was a film crew setting up in front of the pizza bar home serving breakfast from sidewalk tables and feeding what I realized must be their film crew, but also feeding anyone passing by who wanted to go through the line. Didn't take any pictures, more for shyness or befuddlement than the fact I had a telephoto lens on the camera better suited to photographing individual's faces than groups. Interesting to see, though. Stuff happening in Oakland.

Home, the sky still overcast, they're saying rain later tonight and through tomorrow. Driving to my dentist's appointment in the morning may be more interesting than usual. Otherwise another day ahead, we'll see how it goes.

Later. Spent time on the tablet, starting the current CBS episode of Code Black, but then stopped (I'm ambivalent about the series in general, but have continued to watch) to head over to the lake to get out of the apartment.

Feel good, the attitude not bad, the sinuses acting up (even with a second dose of the pain meds) and so, taking a picture of what I think is a first year juvenile Ring-billed Gull who'd just jumped to peck at a crow, looking it up what kind of gull it might be when I got home. Their plumage and look significantly changes as they grow older.

Sat on a bench in the sun, the temperature quite comfortable in a light jacket. Finally got up after failing to think of a place I might like to go, for food if nothing else, and returned to the apartment.

The Trump posters had been removed from the bus stop enclosure when I walked by this morning. I believe it's owned/managed by Clear Channel and they're pretty good about repairing torn advertising placards, replacing and cleaning broken glass and the like. So I have no idea what the Trump posters were about. Then again I can say the same thing about the election. Without doubt.

Evening. An easy enough afternoon and evening. Watched an episode of Vera at eight, understanding about half the dialogue through their accents. And perhaps the quality of my television audio, although it otherwise seems OK. My ears? Not as good as they once were, but not all that bad either.

They're saying a heavy rain tonight and through tomorrow and the weekend. Maybe drive to breakfast tomorrow if it's raining, not looking forward to getting on the highway later to drive to the dentist's office in Albany.

The photo up top was taken at the Oakland Pride Festival with a Nikon D5 mounted with a 70-200mm f 2.8 VR II Nikkor lens.
