Share The Wealth
Saturday. Up at six, six-fifteen, setting the alarm last night so I wouldn't have to worry about awakening too late to drive. Early mornings, eyes still blurry, morning meds not kicking in yet are not the best times to talk yourself into walking. Getting up a little later, yes, the attitude is better, the eyes are clear, you have time to let the meds rev up, but I prefer early to drive and park before the meters start.

This morning I was the only person having breakfast in the dining area, there were some few others who had coffee and pastries and such at the tables outside and some who stopped by to get them on the run. Still, not much in the way of business for a Saturday morning. They'll survive, I'll survive, but there's always the question.

A trip later this morning to pick up an assortment of cheeses as my contribution to the barbeque over at Mr. M (and Ms. A's) this afternoon. I'm thinking of taking a bus downtown and catching the first couple of hours of the Art & Soul festival before returning to the apartment and driving over to El Cerrito for the party. Too tiring for an old fart in such a short period? Be a shame if it was. I'll catch Art & Soul tomorrow, of course, wander around, bump into things, get what photographs I can, but no reason not to get some time in today. I'm usually good for a couple of hours and a couple of hours is what I have.

How did I do with the afternoon planning I talked about yesterday? Learn PhotoShop? Work with the lights? Well, I added picture framing to the list. Some months back I picked up a very good mat cutter at a very good price along with some of the tools and things you need to custom frame prints. I really did want to do that and I still really do want to do that so that's the project for next week (shooting Art & Soul my project for this weekend). Let's say I frame one or two photographs. Print them using some of the techniques I need to practice in PhotoShop. Two damned pictures in a week. I can do that. My Monday jury duty call has been cancelled, I have an eye exam scheduled for early Tuesday, so no excuses. Right?

You're fighting this? You either want to do it and do it or you don't.

I'm writing about fighting it (ad nauseam) and maybe I should pay more attention to the fact, but in my imagination I'd like to get a small show up at the morning café and the only way to do that is to pick a half dozen representative pictures, print them and see if I can make the sale. I mentioned I've been depressed over the quality of a lot of the stuff these last few days. No benefit in that but six pictures? I've got six good pictures. I've got six good pictures I can wrap around a theme. Grab this by the tail! Swing it over your head like a battle flag! Hup! Hup! Hup!

Idiot.

Gets me in the mood for a good weekend, though. A barbeque with friends this afternoon overlooking the bay, the sun out, the day clear, BART management and its unions meeting at the moment working to avoid a Sunday night strike. It's an idiot's world, run by idiots. Being an idiot gives you strength!

Now you're beginning to worry me.

I say share the wealth.

The photograph was taken at the 2009 Pistahan festival at Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco with a Nikon D2Xs mounted with an 17 - 55mm f 2.8 Nikkor DX lens at f 5.0 at 1/100th second, ISO 100.
