Here In Oakland

Art & Life

August 7, 2019

Again

Wednesday. Lights out by nine-thirty last night to awaken at five. And then six. OK, we'll go with that. Out the door on an overcast morning, arriving at the restaurant before seven to find it open with customers inside.

Had the two strips of bacon, eggs over medium, country potatoes, toast, fruit cup and coffee for breakfast, finishing just after eight-thirty to walk home, taking a picture of four Lyft scooters as I passed. Lyft scooters only recently started showing up in Oakland. The usual flowers, if you can call this a flower, and then on to take the selfie in the lobby before settling in to finish yesterday's entry and post it not long after nine.

Lunch later with an old friend from the shipping company days. Maybe should have scaled back somewhat on that breakfast.

Later. A good conversation over lunch with Mr. O. This is the first time I can remember that I've ever gone out without taking a camera. Forgot to bring the phone, as well. Another confirmation that you forget things when you break your routines, at least with the phone. I thought long and hard about not taking a camera, deciding I was being stupid in not doing so once I was out the door. The phone was a result of breaking the routine I go through in setting out: not taking a camera broke the preparation routine, forgetting the phone. Still, a change. Something different.

Back home to lie down and continue with that series I mentioned on the tablet. Dumb has evolved to dumber in these later episodes, but still, it seems to have kept me watching without flinching.

Evening. Watched an episode of the Dutch series Baantjer Mysteries at eight. Not one of their better episodes, but still better than many of the other other detective series. To bed with the fan at the foot of the bed, lights out again at nine-thirty.

The photo up top was taken at the 2018 San Francisco Anime & Cosplay Festival with a Nikon D5 mounted with a 70-200mm f 2.8 VR II Nikkor lens.
