Here In Oakland

Art & Life

December 27, 2021

Tonight

Monday. To sleep a little late, as noted, but awakening at ten minutes after six to get up, take the blood pressure and find it higher than it's usually been in the mornings, not as high as it was yesterday, but high enough to take the med. Got back into bed to listen to the rest of Democracy Now! as usual before getting up to drive to breakfast under a very light rain. Parked by the 7-11 store, crossed Grand, entered the indoor dining area, turned on the lights and settled in with the papers.

The plain waffle with sliced bananas and strawberries, fruit cup and coffee, finishing up by nine to mention to the restaurant owner that I'd be heading out of town for six months starting in February because of the construction required at my apartment building. She said she'd check around with people she knew to see if there was a room or whatever available here in Oakland. Much appreciated that. Kicked myself a little bit for not putting out the word sooner.

Walked to the car and drove home, not many people about, not many cars on the street at nine in the morning. Took the selfie in the lobby, took the blood pressure again (not bad, not great) and settled in at the computer to finish Friday's entry, post, process the morning pictures and start here.

A phone call from the woman who owns a building across the street whom I'd talked with recently about the fact I had to move volunteering her and her son's aid in packing for the move, mentioning she knew of a nearby apartment that was coming up for rent and she'd send me the landlord's name and number. Also mentioned some outfits that will take books off my hands.

Very nice of her. A lot of effort on her part for a complete stranger she only slightly knew. I can't see a landlord renting a newly available unit for just six or seven months, but you never know.

Later. Looked at some of the one bedroom rental rates for the area. More than double mine. OK, not moving into another unit, we'll be moving to the sister's in Oregon.

Started modestly: packing up the guitars, throwing out a few things, inventorying the computer components. Feeling a little dizzy though. The blood pressure still up and so the second and last med of the day at one, we're due to get another kidney blood test along with the blood thinner test tomorrow to see if keeping it to two doses pulls the Creatinine level down.

Evening. Watched some of the usual stuff on the tablet, but made it a point to stop at eight to give the eyes time to make whatever adjustments they need to make to get to sleep at a decent time tonight.

The photo up top was taken at the 2015 San Francisco LGBT Pride Parade with a Nikon D4s mounted with a 70-200mm f 2.8 VR II Nikkor lens.
