Maybe Shave the Mustache
BaddGrrl has added pictures of the Journal Ring members to the Welcome page. As a photographer I shoot a lot of pictures of other people, but I don't shoot any of myself. I could say it's difficult to turn the camera around (and it is), but my history has always been to avoid being photographed. There have been times when I've been overweight and didn't want to be reminded of the fact, but there have been other times when I've been a skinny, well dressed devil may care sort of fellow as well, so this "can't shoot pictures of myself" rings a bit neurotic.

My reaction to BaddGrrl's email yesterday was to send an old picture my father took when I was six years old, which, I think, is something of a cop out. BaddGrrl has her ups and downs, but she works hard at this Web page business and she was generous with a link to her page when I was just starting out. I think I owe some cooperation here when she asks for a little help.

If she want's a picture, let's take her a proper picture. It will be a week or two, but I'd already ordered some tripods and stuff for portraits and product shots so I might as well use them on me when they arrive. Besides, I'm a perfect model: I work cheap, keep similar hours and only break for lunch when the photographer wants.

Twenty four hours from now, when I'm writing tomorrow's entry, I'll probably have a different set of thoughts, very good reasons to maintain a mask (I like masks. Have you seen the home page?). But I won't be able to argue them, you see, after my promise above. Black and white, I think. Maybe shave the mustache.

The banner photograph was taken near my apartment in the Summer of 1977.
