San Francisco Gay Pride Parade

July 2nd, 2004

Damned Straight
Well, I received the ultraviolet filters today for the digital lens I ordered in May. The invoice says the lens itself was shipped "from another warehouse". "Shipped from" or "will ship from"? It says "shipped". Will it arrive tomorrow? Tuesday? This is good. A good sign. Here in Oakland.

I've had three participants from the Dykes on Bikes contingent of the Gay Pride Parade request prints of photographs posted here and on artandlife. Although they are not the first to ask, three in a week is a good sign, since there hasn't been time to post many photographs since the parade last Sunday. I haven't developed the black and white - yes, yes, I'm actually going to do it myself: another sign things are better (maybe the weather) - but I want to get them done and add another page to artandlife on Monday. How long since I've done anything with artandlife? How long since I've looked at it with a critical eye and said my! my!, doesn't it look clunky? That not so dainty "MORE" tab, for example? What was I thinking?

I enjoy sending prints when asked. I like the images, it makes me feel good to know they're appreciated (and displayed) out there somewhere by some of the people who are in them. A way to give something back. John Free, my old street photography instructor down in Ojai, always said giving your work to people is the kick you get out of photography. Damned straight.

The banner photograph was taken at the Gay Pride Parade Sunday in San Francisco with a Nikon D2h mounted with a 70 - 200mm f 2.8 Nikkor lens at ISO 200.
