Here In Oakland

Art & Life

July 4, 2019

Surprise

Thursday. Lights out around nine-thirty again to awaken at a quarter to six, again, getting up on an overcast 4th of July morning to drive to breakfast, arriving before the waitresses had arrived, but the dining area door open and so turned on the lights and settled in with the papers. Success.

The two strips of bacon, eggs over medium, toast, fruit cup and coffee for breakfast, more because I couldn't think of anything else, finishing up by eight-thirty, the sky still overcast. I'd thought of going by the supermarket while driving in, didn't do a thing about it when I left.

Another selfie in the apartment house lobby when I got home. They're saying sun later and a high of around seventy, so over to the lake this afternoon I would hope think as there should be people about and things happening worth a picture.

Later. Lots of reasons not to go by the Jack London Square 4th of July block party, all of them emotional rather than logical, but finally a bus to the square to at least see what was going on and walk up and down the line of booths. Lots of people in the crowd, lots of people having lunch or whatever at outdoor tables by the restaurants and so one or two pictures before catching another bus home.

And that's been the 4th of July here in Oakland. No complaints, the usual television and attempts to find something to watch on the tablet, still the congestion in the chest, still tired, but a nap or two and the afternoon is suddenly gone.

Evening. Nothing on television again and so ended up in bed by nine. Fireworks, seemingly in the near distance, perhaps coming from the lake, perhaps coming from much farther away. Another evening of the 4th, in other words, although there was quite a battle that started up out there near midnight to my surprise.

The photo up top was taken of the Dykes on Bikes contingent at the 2018 San Francisco Gay Pride Parade with a Nikon D5 mounted with a 70-200mm f 2.8 VR II Nikkor lens.
