I Have No Idea
Sunday. To breakfast at quarter to seven, finished by eight, a drive downtown finding a perfect parking place right next to a BART entrance on 12th Street at Broadway, a BART ride to 24th Street in San Francisco to walk the six or so blocks to Bryant where the Carnaval parade was forming up. It was overcast and a bit cool, so the crowd wasn't as large as it was last year. More importantly, I seemed to be in good shape, running around for over an hour with cameras in hand, pooped now that I'm home, but feeling pretty good about things, let me tell you. Oh, and a quick jaunt down to the Beverages & More after I got back to the car for sake (but not too much sake) and a nice piece of cheddar and English Stilton. Comfort food to celebrate later. Already a good Carnaval Sunday and it's not quite noon.
Did I get any photographs? You're somewhat dependent on the good will of the gods at one of these things, how many people show up and all the rest, but the attitude and the eye were reasonably coordinated and I did get some pictures. Whether they're better or worse than earlier Carnavals I have no idea. I takes me a while to make a judgment. Again, one good one is worth all the effort. Well, maybe two.
Later. OK, I've posted them here. There seemed to be enough worth posting to fill a section (21 photographs) with one or two left over. You get to a point where you look at what you're shooting and wonder if you haven't gone completely stale and suddenly all of them seem trite. Walking back to BART I shot a couple of photographs of building doors and such (there are some nice building murals in this area of the Mission district) and was thinking I like them better than what I was getting at the parade. But then I tend to do things like this. I say to myself my parade images: same image, just different people, year after year after year. Again, as I said, this is a familiar routine, I'll let it slide, pour myself some of that sake I mentioned or else I'll continue with this crap.
Indeed you will. What's up for next week?
Lunch with some of the folks still at the old office on Wednesday. Maybe a car trip later up the coast. For some reason I thought about driving up to Eureka last week. Why I have no idea.
