Pictures About
Saturday. There are two channels (KCSM and KCSMMhz) with what I've been calling the same call letters carrying this six o'clock foreign series of detective shows I keep rambling on about, two having something to do with how they're able to broadcast additional channels within the same frequency range when they're in digital format.

Same with my local bay area public television stations, there's a KQED-HD, a KTEH-DT and yet another labeled WORLD, all public stations, each evidently broadcasting from a different bay area location.

Only KCSM went around the clock to France 24 News last night, KCSMMHz seems to have stayed with the detective programs and it ran a repeat of that first half of the German language program I watched the week before. If that's a complicated enough description. Usually a sign you don't understand what you're talking about. Hard to describe something about which you know close to nothing.

Anyway, when I finally checked the channels after nine last night discovering my error, I added another tick to the list of memory failures. Either a memory failure or the fact I'm living as a hermit and don't having anyone to bounce my misinformed information off of (if you feel comfortable ending a sentence with “off of”).

So to bed later than I should, up a good two hours after the alarm, off to drive by the ATM over on Lakeshore and then to breakfast on this sunny morning. No complaints. We feel pretty good, certainly good enough to set out for the Fruitvale Dia de los Muertos street festival later, see if we can't get some decent (or, for that matter, indecent) pictures.

Later. A short bus ride to BART and then a short BART ride to the Fruitvale station where the Dia de los Muertos festival was located, pushed up right up against the walls of the elevated station. I wish they were all this easy to reach.

A couple of hours of shooting with a break for coffee and a cup cake, back to the apartment to survey the damage. Today's pictures not as good as last year's pictures, but more than enough for a section or two. A good day, in other words, the pictures in the can. Now the only thing left to do is to process the lot and post them to artandlife. I would think. On what will be a long Saturday afternoon and evening.

Later still. I may be wrong about the number of pictures that turned out. Looks like more than I imagined. Only a few verge on blowing your socks off, but that's the norm. You only get a very few that are really nice, nice by your lights anyway, not everyone shares my particular take, but that's the way of taste. If it gets you out the door with a camera every day something is happening inside your head you like.

Evening. The second KCSMMhz channel is running programs not listed on their web site schedule and didn't run a foreign language detective/mystery program at six. It did in fact run France 24, but a different version than the one now running 24/7 on its sister channel next door. Which is a long way of saying the six o'clock time slot seems to be toast. Probably better for my health.

More time on the pictures, much more time still needed. We'll work on them this evening and hope to slip some guitar time in. Complicated, these weekends, when there are pictures about.

The photo up top was taken walking along Grand by Splash Pad Park with a Nikon D4 mounted with a 135mm f/2.0 DC Nikkor lens.
