Awake

Saturday. Lights out at ten to awaken just before six, get up and get ready to walk to breakfast at six forty-five on a clear, but cool, morning, wearing the light winter jacket this time. Wondered, as I passed by the parking lot at the corner of Euclid and Grand, why it was full of parked cars when it's almost always nearly empty this early on a Saturday morning? Approaching the fitness club across from the white column pergola by the lake I could hear amplified music and then a large crowd clustered around the performance area. So a picture.

Arrived a minute before the first employee rolled up on his bicycle, ordered the a two strips of bacon, scrambled eggs, country potatoes, toast, fruit cup and coffee for breakfast at seven-thirty (when the kitchen opens) and finished up by eight forty-five, still wondering about the crowd by the lake.

A clear sky and bright sun walking home, crossing to the pergola area at the lake to read the signs to see it was a suicide prevention walk, something I remembered then that they'd had in the past. Wondered at the thought that suicide here in Oakland would bring out such a large crowd so early on a Saturday and realized I had no idea how large a problem it might be.

Maybe take a walk by the farmers market later this morning.

Wanna bet?

Later. A walk over to the lake with the head in something of a spin. Seems to be OK, the head, inside the apartment, but once out in the sun there's a range of fuzzy headed related things that go on, again to recede when I'm back inside. Nice day out there, the usual number of people about for a weekend, no signs left of this morning's walk. Took a couple of pictures, but nothing to write home about and so returned to sit and watch television.

Later still. OK, another walk over to the lake to see if the experience would be the same. Felt better, not the almost at the edge of dizziness of the earlier trip and so one or two (or three) pictures, sitting for a while on an empty bench as I'd done earlier to watch a wedding party photo shoot underway and then head back to the apartment. Feeling better is at least better than not.

Evening. To bed by seven-thirty and lights out well before eight. Tired. Probably means, lights out this early, I'll be waking up after midnight to spend an hour or so watching the clock half awake.

The photo up top was taken at the 2013 Fruitvale Dia de los Muertos Street Festival with a Nikon D4s mounted with a 70-200mm f 2.8 VR II Nikkor lens.
