Had By All Friday. We crapped out last night on getting together for a late afternoon beverage so I got to bed early (after a couple of glasses of wine), got up early, went to breakfast early and then ran by the hospital lab to have an overdue blood test and (phew!), there still being time left on my meter, I walked over to a building across the street to find my dermatologist's office (it was on the 5th floor, not the 7th, right?) and made an appointment for an annual checkup. I was way late in making an appointment for an annual checkup, but I'd forgotten the doctor's name and hadn't been able to look it up and, well, what with sloth (remember sloth?), I've managed to put off making an appointment now for close to a year. Now I'm back at the apartment, the temperature cool, but the humidity is high, sticky and uncomfortable.
My, my.
I would like to say there's some revelatory meaning in getting the damned blood test done (two or three weeks late), making the dermatologist's appointment (a year late), but sitting here looking at the screen with Ms. Emmy curled up on my lap I'm unable to find one. Maybe things just happen, rather like radioactive decay. Months and months the old xyz atom just sits there and then one morning a neutron or two pops out and xyz becomes something else and the world keeps spinning on its axis. Just like that. No amount of navel gazing is going to tell you why. The sun comes up, the sun goes down until it doesn't, please pass the salt.
I believe you have a baseball game early this evening.
I'll take pictures.
Later. A call from the doctor's office, my blood is thinner than it should be, a lot thinner than it should be, so please avoid getting any cuts or bruises, stop taking the blood thinning pills until Sunday, take a half dose on Sunday, and then get another test on Monday to see if that's corrected the problem. Have I been doing anything out of the norm recently? Drinking a lot of Cranberry juice? Begun taking steroids? Any other change in my diet? My prescription drugs? No? I guess it's best not to procrastinate on the blood tests. I guess. I've been losing weight lately, eating somewhat less, walking somewhat more, any chance that could be a factor? I'll go another round at the hospital on Monday, get back on the dime.
Later still. There were sixteen seats in the skybox, but Mr. E and I were the only two people present. A couple of youngsters who'd been sitting in the bleachers entered after the first inning started, but what the hell. There was plenty of beer in the skybox refrigerator so we said “sure” when asked, have your fill. It's easy to wave your hand and be magnanimous on someone else's nickel. Oh, and the A's were hammered by the Rangers. All in all: a good night had by all.
