The Fast Lane
Wednesday. To bed last night at a decent hour, although it was too warm for any expectations I'd be able to get to sleep right away. Around midnight? Probably. Up two or three times with foot cramps, short periods, less than five minutes each, but not the best I'd guess for a restful night. Still, not tired this morning, feel good, the head clear, none of the double vision stuff. They're saying cooler today. It's clear, no overcast, but it feels nice now at nine after breakfast and the papers.
I was able to find room in that trash bin on the way to breakfast for one or two small items, so I'll drop the two printers off for recycling later, pay the nominal fee. I'd have done that anyway, but there's still stuff in the back of the car. Less stuff, which is good, but we're not there yet. The apartment keeps looking better and better and I'm feeling upbeat. So to hell with it. We'll do OK. (Hup!)
Later. A slow day. A rather nice (and inexpensive) laptop cart was delivered by UPS and I've spent some time putting it together and updating the software on my laptop once I'd put it in place. It fit, even with the external drives. Why do I need a laptop cart? Well, it's nice and it's convenient and it was inexpensive as said, but why? Can't say. It jumped out of an ad in the Times last week. Looked nice..
A drive to the supermarket for milk, cereal, peaches and raspberries (they had a very good price on raspberries). Other than that, nothing much, I'm sitting here saying it's OK to stay inside and do “nothing much”. I've been retired now for over three years, but they still have me trained. Gotta be doing something, doesn't much matter what. A walk later, I would think, to where I have no clue, the temperatures outside are reasonable; some guitar, I'm sure (how much, I don't know); another run through the apartment identifying areas to clean (one of these days) and crap to eliminate. Exciting stuff. Actually.
Later still. More futzing with the laptop on its new, set on wheels, not overly large, laptop stand. I've never been able to get the Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard to work reliably and they're not working now. I wonder what's out there that will work? Be nice to sit in the television chair with a keyboard on my lap. Comfortable, I would think. They have such things, I'm sure. Wireless keyboards and mice that do what they're supposed to do.
You've seen, we've seen, the outline of the day. The head, at least, except for the sinus-upper palate things (and the sinuses) are under control. None of the visual distortions, none of the sideways glancing double vision. This is good, but is it enough? Maybe, maybe not. Maybe that lack of sleep last night is showing itself, not so much in feeling tired, but in feeling slow. No need to go outside. Hungry, a run to the local Seven-Eleven Look Alike for a tuna fish sandwich and an ice cream cone. Comfort food. Not as warm today, but still warm. Life in the fast lane (again), here in Oakland.
