Here In Oakland

Art & Life

August 24, 2013

Arrived Recently
Saturday. To bed before ten and then to sleep, if I remember it correctly, which I'm not sure I do. Up this morning before the alarm to head off to breakfast on an overcast but soon to be sunny morning, two opportunities for photographs available this weekend.

The Oakland Chinatown StreetFest is running today and tomorrow, easy to get to, somewhat difficult to photograph. Noise Pop, a block party of some kind, is running this afternoon on 20th Street in San Francisco, a BART ride to 16th and then an eight block walk to 20th and Harrison. I may go but, if I'm going to go, I have to go today and take in the Chinatown StreetFest after in the later afternoon and then tomorrow to get enough pictures. A younger I with more ambition (and stamina) would have done both without blinking.

Later. A nap - not a long nap - and then a bus downtown to photograph the StreetFest. I thought about San Francisco and Noise Pop (I like the name), but better to do the home town thing, so on to the Asian Cultural Center.

Close to two hours of walking about shooting, a break for an ice cream cone while sitting in the Cultural Center, all of which seems to have resulted in a section of photographs if I shoot more to fill in tomorrow. I put what I shot up on HereInOakland, but I'm not happy with all of them and a few need to be replaced. Be nice to add another section, but it would take quite a bit more shooting. Some festivals are easier than others and my record with this one hasn't been good.

Obviously an afternoon spent shooting and then finishing it working on the photographs, as it's now approaching six. We'll see what's on television and see if there isn't something I can sit and accompany on guitar. We need to get in at least an hour on guitar. Yesterday was OK, probably an hour, but not quite the two hours that Tuesday through Friday were somehow able to produce, so we'll see if we can't step up the pace and catch up. Hup.

Evening. A miserable selection of stuff on TV so I've tried a number of Netflix movies, started one or two, picked up on one or two I've let lie fallow in the middle for, well, forever. I'm obviously boxing myself into a tighter and tighter entertainment corner with my self imposed limitation of choices. So maybe just go to bed and look through an unread magazine or two that have arrived recently.

The photo up top was taken yesterday at the Asian Cultural Center with a Nikon D4 mounted with a 24-120mm f/4.0 VR Nikkor lens.
