Here In Oakland

Art & Life

January 30, 2018

Tomorrow

Tuesday. To bed early enough, but spent more time than usual with the tablet and so lights out well after nine (but before ten) to then awaken at quarter to six. Not bad, enough sleep unless the day tells me a different story when it's over. Which it might.

All of which goes to show?

Another walk, but an easy enough walk, on a cold morning to have the Eggs Benedict, country potatoes, fruit cup and coffee for breakfast because I couldn't think of anything else (other than maybe that plain waffle with fruit) I wanted to eat. Life lived along the edge, here in Oakland.

Clear skies and so a bright sun walking home, none of the three or four photographs particularly well exposed or in focus. We will discuss this with ourself a little later. I seem to be able to babble on here without embarrassment and take picture in mind numbing numbers of the same subjects, but out of focus crosses some barrier that even I won't cross. Not that I'll end up doing much about it.

Maybe something. Check a manual, open a menu and at least look at it at some point. Later.

Maybe something like that.

Later. A walk to the bank on Lakeshore and then across the street to the card shop before returning to the apartment, a first of sorts. Didn't bring a camera with me in hand, over the shoulder, in a backpack or under the coat. How long since I've done that? I suspect since forever. Thinking back there was one picture I would have taken at Lake Merritt, but otherwise I survived. Quite well.

Do tell.

Odd to think that would be a big deal, but it is to some degree. The camera in hand taking pictures has been no small aspect in how I've been perceived by the outside world - friends, workmates, family, whomever - not always, I suspect, to the good.

Which means you'll probably set out again without a camera pretty soon.

I suspect I will.

Evening. I did listen to the State of the Union speech. The first hour of it, anyway. One does these things. Amazon has a delivery they're claiming they're going to make by eight this evening and so we'll wait around to see if it arrives. Mostly they do, sometimes they don't. Nothing coming I can't as easily deal with tomorrow.

Last week at the Oakland Women's March taken with a Nikon D5 mounted with a 70-200mm f 2.8 Nikkor VR II lens.
