Here In Oakland

Art & Life

January 15, 2020

After

Wednesday. To sleep reasonably soon after nine to awaken at twenty minutes to five. A little early, but listened to the five minute KPFA News at five fifty-five and the beginning of Democracy Now! at six before getting up to set out walking to breakfast on another cold dark morning, arriving by seven to find the restaurant open and people inside.

The plain waffle with sliced bananas and strawberries, fruit cup and coffee for breakfast. Haven't had that in a while. Finished the papers by a quarter to nine and set out for home, passing by the two planters not far along the way, two bicycle riders at the Grand Lake theater traffic light and a single remaining Lime scooter sitting on the sidewalk by the lake.

Did I mention it was cold? It was, probably still is as I sit here later writing this. Another selfie, of course, and then the usual futz with and then post yesterday's entry, still scratching my head about confusing the date of the Climate Strike demonstration I'd set out in vain to photograph yesterday. Life in this new decade. No complaints. It is life after all and not the alternative.

Later. Lied down on the bed and slept for over an hour. Evidently not enough sleep last night. Up just before two to turn on the television news to listen to it in the background while futzing with this. I usually bail on any additions here around now and so we'll say the sleep has done some good, not that I have much to say.

Evening. To bed again by eight, lights out by nine-thirty (again)and to sleep not long after.

The photograph was taken at the #RedForEd Teachers Strike demonstration in January 2019 at the Oakland City Hall with a Nikon D5 mounted with a 24-120mm f 4.0 Nikkor VR lens.
