Seventies
Tuesday. To sleep too early just after ten to awaken too early at five-thirty, pretty much fully awake to the take the usual time listening to the KPFA news followed by Democracy Now!. Up finally at seven-thirty (having already shaved with the electric razor in bed) to drive to breakfast on a sunny and going to be warm morning. The excuse I used for driving was needing to keep the car battery charged. As good as any if the reason doesn't matter, I guess.
Arrived to find the parking in front of the restaurant full due to nearby construction and so drove on across Elwood to find a nearby spot without a problem. Into the closed off dining room, turn on the lights and settle in with the papers, routine in place.
The ground beef patty, scrambled eggs, country potatoes, toast, fruit cup and coffee for breakfast, we're still doing reasonably well on the scale in the mornings, finishing up then well after nine to head out the door, take the usual picture in the direction of the apartment and then one heading to where the car was now parked.
A quick drive home to run into the apartment house manager in the garage who told me that three tenants with their balconies now under construction would have to move, he being one of them. Evidently the repairs will require this and he will be leaving within the month.
He said my side of the building wouldn't require any of us to move, but I wonder. He only learned this in these last few days when they realized how much and what kind of work would be required on his apartment. Something to think/worry about when they start screwing around on my side.
Later. A walk to the 7-11 look-alike to pick up two pints of ice cream if only to get outside. People (half without masks) on the sidewalk, but the lawn field above the lake pretty much empty. Otherwise spent the time futzing about online and watching more crap on the tablet, all salted with a bit of news, as much news as I could take.
Evening. Watched most of another episode of Last Tango In Halifax, bailing before it ended when the upsets the characters were experiencing stated to upset me. Weird. Would this have happened to the younger I, allowing this stuff to get under my skin? Who knows, we've clearly entered into new territory in the late seventies.
