We Need Them
Monday. To bed just after nine, you'd think I'd have gotten a good night's sleep, although I turned the alarm off and slept in for another forty-five minutes. We'll see. To breakfast and back, the pandorea vine sporting two other now flowering clusters for the first time (each showing but one blossom), a picture of the flower I've been following. The vine looks as if it's receiving better care.

Another sunny day. Chilly in the early morning, but they're saying it will approach ninety in the afternoon, we'll deal with that when we come to it. A decent day on guitar yesterday, felt good about it, best to do it again so I can feel good about it today.

Later. I've been having nothing but trouble this last week, well, more trouble with this home Protime blood testing device. I've learned how to use it, no problem there, but I haven't been able to draw enough blood from the fingers using their little spring loaded needle device. You're supposed to draw blood near the finger tip.

Playing guitar, my fingertips have callouses. Nothing particularly obvious to look at them, but rubbery tough pads right under the surface and they don't bleed easily, let alone let you enjoy playing. You get the idea. I'll find a way to work it out, but I'm quite late in (last) week's reading.

A walk over to the lake to check the goslings with the 80-200mm lens, finding them in the same area. Still eighteen (counted twice), still feeding like little vacuum cleaners eating whatever it is they eat in the grass, the six momma and papa geese keeping a close lookout.

A not particularly exciting picture or two, a walk then to the white columned pergola before returning to the apartment. Not much of a walk. We'll go out later with a less conspicuous lens, have lunch, go downtown, do something. We eventually do, but not after a lot of mumbling and fumbling.

Later still. Definitely warm out there, walking to the usual place for a lunch of ice cream and lemonade. Better to have worn just the t-shirt. Still, a bus back from the restaurant, surprisingly an air conditioned bus from the feel of it, back now to listen to the news and to practice.

I passed a billboard on the way that answered my question on Saturday about the large number of people I'd found walking around the lake wearing blue W.E.P printed t-shirts. Might have been nice if I'd noticed the billboard long before, might have made arrangements to take pictures.

Evening. A Don Matteo detective adventure at six. Best not to watch the Don Matteo at six. Some nice things about it, but much too saccharine, even for someone who eats so much ice cream. Some guitar so far, but we haven't done nearly enough. Some watching online of the Oklahoma tornado tragedy, ghoulish behavior this, why am I doing it? Some thought to go out and buy one of the small three shot bottles of whiskey, haven't thought about doing that in a while. Won't, but interesting, nothing so compelling I might actually do it.

To bed early again. The upper palate and sinuses have been aching so I've taken a third dose of the pain meds. They do seem to work so we'll take them when we think we need them.

The photo up top was taken at the San Francisco Asian Heritage Street Celebration with a Nikon D4 mounted with an 70-200mm f 2.8 VR II Nikkor lens.
